We’re delighted to announce the International Conference of Syntax Research and Applications – Syntax 2026 Online, taking place from 25–27 November 2026.

Hosted by the International Linguistic Society, this virtual conference invites linguists, researchers, and language professionals to explore the critical role of syntax in shaping how languages function, evolve, and are taught, processed, and applied.

Why Syntax?

Syntax has long stood at the heart of linguistic theory and analysis. It governs how words come together to form meaning—how we build questions, express nuance, and interpret structure. From language acquisition to artificial intelligence, syntactic frameworks underpin our understanding of communication across both human and machine systems.

Every language has its own unique syntactic architecture, from word order rules to transformational processes. Syntax 2026 offers a global platform to dive into these structures and examine their relevance across theoretical, experimental, and applied domains.

What to Expect

Syntax 2026 Online will offer a rich, collaborative space for both established scholars and early-career researchers, with:

🔹 Keynote presentations from internationally recognised figures in syntactic theory and application
🔹 Thematic sessions exploring cross-linguistic syntax, formal theory, and syntax interfaces
🔹 Experimental and interdisciplinary approaches to syntactic analysis
🔹 Applications of syntax in language technology, language education, and clinical linguistics
🔹 All accepted abstracts published as 4-page papers in the Linguistic Proceedings Series

Conference Themes

Submissions are welcomed in areas including (but not limited to):

  • Syntactic structures and transformations
  • Comparative and typological syntax
  • Syntax–semantics and syntax–phonology interfaces
  • Experimental syntax and neurosyntax
  • Syntax in second language acquisition
  • Syntax in speech and language disorders
  • Computational approaches and NLP applications
