The International Linguistic Society is delighted to invite you to participate in the International Conference of Linguistic Research and Applications, Linguistics 2026 Athens, to be held from 23rd–25th April 2026 in Athens, Greece. The primary aim of the conference is to advance key areas of contemporary linguistics, welcoming innovative approaches to linguistic research and applications.

The Linguistics 2026 Athens conference envisions a vibrant platform for collaboration and dialogue among established researchers, research groups, and emerging scholars in an integrated context. This unique gathering aims to foster an enriching environment of knowledge exchange, collaboration, and inspiration.

Keynote lectures will be delivered by distinguished scholars from various fields of linguistics, presenting new perspectives and expanding the horizons of language study and applications.

Conference Themes and Scope
Linguistics 2026 Athens will feature diverse and pioneering work in linguistics, including, but not limited to:

  • Core Linguistics: Phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, text analysis
  • Interdisciplinary Linguistics: Psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, sociolinguistics, computational linguistics
  • Applied Linguistics: Language education, language pathology, language technology
  • AI in Linguistics: This year’s conference will also highlight emerging AI applications that advance linguistic knowledge and enhance communication systems. These developments are expected to have a significant social impact, reshaping language interactions and accessibility.
  • A special session on Greek Linguistics: Providing a platform for Greek and international linguists to connect, exchange knowledge, and collaborate on research related to the Greek language.

Hybrid Participation Options
Linguistics 2026 Athens will be a hybrid conference, offering both in-person and virtual presentation and attendance options. In addition to keynote lectures, the programme will include a limited number of oral presentations and a variety of poster presentations. Virtual participants will have remote access to keynote lectures, oral presentations, and select online sessions.

Accepted abstracts will be published as expanded 4-page conference papers in the Linguistic Proceedings Series.

We warmly invite researchers and research groups engaged in any area of linguistics and related applications to submit one-page abstracts for consideration at the Linguistics 2026 Athens conference.

Submission Deadline: TBA

Accepted papers for Linguistics 2026 Athens will be included in three types of publications:

  • Linguistics 2026 Proceedings: All accepted papers, regardless of their type of presentation, will be published online in the Linguistics Proceedings Series.
  • Linguistic Society YouTube Channel: Selected presentations will be uploaded to the Linguistic Society YouTube Channel.
  • Additional Publications: Further publications will be considered, including special issues in established academic journals.

Publication Ethics

Publication Standards

Authors of original research are expected to provide:

  • A precise description of the theoretical and experimental background.
  • Detailed methodology.
  • Clear presentation of results.
  • An objective discussion of the significance of their work.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Significant contributions to the conception, design, or execution of the research.
  • Authorship of the manuscript or critical revisions thereof.

Contributors who have provided substantial support, such as technical assistance, writing and editing help, or general support but do not meet the authorship criteria, should be acknowledged but not listed as authors.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring:

  • All co-authors are appropriately included and meet authorship criteria.
  • All co-authors have reviewed and approved the final manuscript.
  • All co-authors agree to the submission of the manuscript for publication.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure their submissions are entirely original. If the work or words of others are used, they must be properly cited or acknowledged. Any publications that have influenced the research should also be cited.

Plagiarism, in any form, is strictly prohibited and includes:

  • Copying or paraphrasing substantial parts of another’s work without citation.
  • Misrepresenting research conducted by others as one’s own.

Such unethical practices are unacceptable and constitute a breach of publication ethics.

Acknowledgements

Authors should:

  • Appropriately acknowledge the contributions of others.
  • Cite publications that have significantly influenced the reported work.
  • Explicitly state any financial support, scholarships, or economic assistance related to the research.

Authors must not use confidential information obtained through services such as manuscript refereeing or grant application reviews unless explicit, written permission is granted by the original author(s).

Each contributor to the conference may appear as the sole author of up to two papers and as a co-author of two additional papers. A maximum of four authors per paper is recommended.

Submitted abstracts must be limited to one page and no more than 500 words (excluding the author name(s)). Abstracts should address the following criteria:

  • Significance: Does this study address an important problem?
  • Innovation: Does the study employ novel concepts and aim for original methods?
  • Approach: Are the conceptual frameworks, designs, methods, and analyses adequate?
  • Usefulness: How can the research objectives benefit the respective scientific area?
  • Clarity: How clear and well-organised is the presentation?

Abstract Layout Guidelines

Title of Paper

Keep the title concise and closely related to the paper’s content. The abstract must not exceed one page, including references.

Object of Study

Begin with a brief description of the object of study or investigation, providing the theoretical context. Clearly state your questions or hypotheses in simple terms, avoiding overly technical language. In essence, explain what you have done.

Methodology

Summarise the key aspects of your approach and methodology, including details such as subjects, materials, research context, or any essential components to help readers understand your work. In short, describe how you conducted your research.

Results

Present your results or findings succinctly, especially in relation to your research questions or hypotheses. Avoid unnecessary details or extensive statistical data. Simply describe what you have found.

Conclusions

Draw explicit conclusions from your results and connect them to the significance of your study.

References

Including references in abstract submissions is optional. If included, references should be concise and relevant. Given the limited space, it is preferable to focus on your own work rather than referencing the work of others.

Onsite activities include:

Online participants can:

  • Attend live streams of morning sessions, including keynote lectures and oral presentations.
  • Present their contributions during the afternoon online sessions (15:00–18:00).

This hybrid programme format is designed to maximise knowledge sharing and interaction, fostering a collaborative environment for all participants.

The proceedings of the Linguistics 2026Athens conference will comprise 4-page papers. Submission of these papers is contingent upon the acceptance of the corresponding one-page abstracts.

This process ensures that the conference proceedings maintain a high standard of quality and relevance by accurately reflecting the research presented in the accepted abstracts.

Oral Presentations

  • Each oral presentation is allocated a 15-minute time slot, which includes time for discussion.
  • Presenters must ensure their talk does not exceed 15 minutes.
  • The room for oral presentations will be equipped with a multimedia PC running Windows, featuring USB ports, Microsoft PowerPoint, and PDF viewing software.
  • Presentations should be brought on a USB flash drive.
  • Please note that only a limited number of papers will be selected for oral presentations.

This template has been provided to ensure consistency and professionalism in oral presentations.

Poster Presentations

General Information:

  • Each poster display should prominently feature the title and the presenter(s)’ name(s) at the top.
  • Effective use of captioned illustrations, photographs, graphs, and other visually engaging materials is essential for a successful presentation.
  • Lettering should be large enough to be legible from several metres away.

Materials:

  • The recommended poster size is 120 cm (height) x 90 cm (width) (47.2 x 35.4 inches), though smaller posters are also acceptable.
  • The Organising Committee will provide push pins and a display board.
  • Presenters should bring any additional materials they may need, such as tape or a line level.
  • It may be useful to have sketch paper and drawing tools for explanations. However, please note that it is not permitted to write or draw directly on the poster boards.

Location and Time:

  • Posters will be displayed as part of scheduled sessions, each lasting at least one hour.
  • Presenters should set up their posters 15 minutes prior to the session’s start time.
  • Be prepared for interactive discussions and engagement with your audience during the session.
  • Most conference presentations will be in poster format.

Registration and Payment Policy

General Policy

  • Each submitted paper requires a separate registration and payment.
  • The same fees apply for both onsite and online participation.
  • Reduced rates are available to all eligible participants based on registration category, regardless of the number of authors.

Important Notes

  • All submissions must be registered and paid in full to be included in the conference programme.
  • Incorrect payments or ineligible use of discounted categories may result in exclusion from the programme.
  • It is the responsibility of the submitting author to ensure that the correct registration category and fee are selected.
  • Proof of eligibility is required for all discounted registrations (e.g. student ID, proof of membership, or retirement status). Failure to provide valid documentation may result in the full fee being applied.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • Cancellations made at least 15 days before the conference: Refundable, minus a €50 administrative fee.
  • Cancellations within 15 days of the conference: Not eligible for refunds.
  • Late or Incorrect Registrations: Subject to a €50 administrative fee.
