Phonetics 2025 Hong Kong – Day One Recap & Online Sessions Begin

Yesterday we officially opened Phonetics 2025 Hong Kong 🎉. The day began with a warm Welcome Address from Prof. Peter Yuen, Dean of the College of Professional and Continuing Education at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His words set the tone for what promises to be an inspiring and collaborative event.

The first Keynote Lecture followed, delivered by Prof. Niels Schiller: “From Thought to Sound in Speech Production.” His talk provided fascinating insights into the processes that shape how we transform ideas into spoken language — a perfect way to launch the academic programme.

Beyond the opening sessions, delegates enjoyed a full day of presentations, discussions, and the chance to connect with colleagues from around the world. The exchange of ideas has already shown the strength and diversity of phonetics research today.

And today marks the start of our online sessions, which run across two days. These bring together participants worldwide, ensuring that Phonetics 2025 truly represents a global conversation. Sessions begin today and continue tomorrow, so whether you are here in Hong Kong or joining remotely, we look forward to your contributions.

Stay tuned for more updates and highlights as the conference continues — and if you’re sharing moments from the event, don’t forget to tag us!
