Join the International Linguistic Society Reviewer Committee

The International Linguistic Society is inviting applications from researchers and professionals interested in joining our Reviewer Committee.

Our reviewers play an important role in supporting the quality and integrity of the Society’s academic activities, contributing their expertise to the peer review of conference submissions, publications and other scholarly work.

We welcome applications from researchers and professionals working across linguistics, language research and related interdisciplinary fields.

Who Can Apply?

We are looking for applicants with relevant academic or professional expertise who can contribute objective, constructive and confidential peer review.

Areas of expertise may include applied and theoretical linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, corpus and computational linguistics, phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, language education, second language acquisition, bilingualism and multilingualism, translation and interpreting, language assessment, educational technology, artificial intelligence and language technology, and related disciplines.

Applicants should normally be able to demonstrate relevant research, publications or professional work within their field and a commitment to maintaining high academic and ethical standards.

Previous reviewing experience is welcomed but is not the only factor considered when applications are assessed.

A Fair and Consistent Application Process

Researchers may be personally invited to apply by the International Linguistic Society or may submit an application independently.

All applications are assessed using the same criteria to ensure consistency, fairness and academic integrity.

The ILS Editorial Team considers applicants’ academic background, professional experience, research and publication record, subject expertise and other relevant scholarly activities before making an appointment decision.

Submission of an application does not automatically result in appointment to the Reviewer Committee.

How the Application Process Works

The online application is Step 1 of the reviewer appointment process.

Applicants are asked to provide information about their academic and professional background, research expertise, scholarly profiles, selected publications and previous reviewing experience.

Successful applicants will then be contacted directly by the International Linguistic Society to complete Step 2: Reviewer Profile Setup.

During this stage, new reviewers will confirm the information to be included in their reviewer profile. Those who have chosen to have a public profile will also be asked to provide a suitable professional photograph.

Public Reviewer Profiles

Members of the Reviewer Committee may choose to be included in our public Reviewer Committee directory.

The directory demonstrates the expertise and international diversity of our reviewer community and supports transparency within the International Linguistic Society’s peer review process.

Reviewers who do not wish to have a public profile may choose to keep their reviewer profile private.

A Voluntary Academic Contribution

Membership of the International Linguistic Society Reviewer Committee is voluntary and unpaid.

Reviewer positions do not constitute employment or paid consultancy with the International Linguistic Society. Reviewers contribute their expertise as members of the international scholarly community, supporting rigorous, constructive and responsible peer review.
